Matt and his wife Tracy live in Newark and have two sons, James and Samuel, ages 10 and 4. Matt comes to us from Kirkersville United Methodist Church where he has been pastor for five years. He is a licensed United Methodist pastor and is currently taking Course of Study
classes at the United Methodist Theological School in Delaware. He grew up in Newark and attended Granville High School. As a youth he attended Second Presbyterian Church in Newark. He went to Marietta College where he met his wife Tracy. They moved to Toledo while she attended law school. After working with real estate title insurance, Matt answered the call and felt that it was in the United Methodist Church where he could begin his ministry.
Matt's wife Tracy is a magistrate in the Licking County Domestic Relations Court and is passionate about the Emmaus Walk. She is a life-long United Methodist and grew up in Belpre in Washington County.
Matt says he feels more comfortable with traditional services and is very communion minded. He enjoys teaching and has done podcasts of some of his sermons. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, learning about history, and cooking.
When asked why he would consider coming to our church, he said that he had been praying for our church for several weeks, so when the opportunity arose, it seemed like the thing he should do.
We are looking forward to Pastor Matt's ministry here and hope the community will welcome him and his family. They reside in Newark but of course will be spending much time in Johnstown as Pastor Matt becomes acquainted with the needs of the community.
Feel free to stop in the church office and say hello. Or if you would like an appointment with the new minister contact the church office between 8:15 and noon Monday through Thursday.
