Matthew Van Winkle

What are your responsibilities at Johnstown UMC? I am the Pastor of Johnstown UMC. Each week I share the word that God has given me for the flock. I hope to cast vision, create excitement, and
 pray for the members of our church family as well as the community. It is my intention to help our congregation to "make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."

Tell us about your family. My wife Tracy and I are blessed with two wonderful children, James and Samuel. Our extended family lives throughout Ohio, and we are pleased to say that we see them often.

3 Words that describe you best. "you tell me" (just kidding)...1) listener; 2) compassionate; 3) dedicated.

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Golf, spending time with my family, reading and cooking.

Interesting Facts: After running from the ministry most of my life, I accepted the call to the pastorate at 29. I have made 2 hole-in-ones among my golfing exploits. I am a BIG History buff.

What is your favorite Bible verse? Proverbs 3:5-6

What are your responsibilities at Johnstown UMC? I am here to serve the Johnstown UMC congregation’s pastoral care needs, to preach occasionally, and to participate and lead in Bible studies.

Tell us about your family. I am married to Cheryl (who is the pastor at Bennington Chapel UMC) and we have four adult children and three grandchildren.

3 Words that describe you best. Concerned, life-long learner (disciple), outward thinking

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Reading, exercising,
North American Welsh activities, spending time with family
and friends.
Interesting Facts: I am an only child; I am a successful heart attack survivor

What are your responsibilities at Johnstown UMC? I do the weekly bulletin, the slide show for Sunday Worship and the monthly newsletter. I am also the friendly voice you hear when you call the church office. But my most important role is keeping Pastor Matt in line!

Tell us about your family. I have two children, Todd (Megan) and Taylor (Jesse) and one grandson, Dean. I have lived in Johnstown most of my life and have a large extended family, including 4 sisters and 1 brother , who live in Johnstown, and many nieces and nephews.

3 Words that describe you best. Friendly, dedicated and loyal

What do you enjoy doing for fun? Spending time with family and friends, watching movies/musicals, reading, and, mostly, babysitting for my grandson.
